Position Summary

 

The Mechanical Designer/Drafter will be working on medical device development as part of a tight knit development team. This role will be designing and  drafting parts for the instrument to industry-standards. A high degree of tolerancing, GD&T and understanding of manufacturing processes is required for this role. This person will work closely with multiple engineers to design and draft precision machined, sheet -metal, molded and 3D printed components. The ideal candidate would have work experience in being a part of an engineering team, building a medical device. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with design engineers to design and provide detailed engineering component drawings and assembly drawings
  • Utilize knowledge in precision manufacturing and measurement techniques to produce accurate and inspectable components
  • Create 3D models of new concepts and improve designs for manufacturing, quality, and cost.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining engineering change process using PDM and PLM systems
  • Evaluate existing designs for manufacturability
  • Participate in all project phases from conceptualization, proof-of-concept, presentations, and validation.
  • Assist team in meeting tight deadlines.
  • Assist in reviews of RFQ’s, supplier DFM meetings and FAI
  • Role may require some travel
  • Design in Solidworks 2020 with PDM.

 

Education and Experience

  • BSc. in Mechanical, Aerospace, Biomedical Engineering or in an equivalent area
  • 3+ years of experience in the field.
  • Medical device development
  • Design experience in precision automation
  • Competency in designing large electromechanical system components
  • Proven design record
  • Analytical problem solution skills, such as modeling and simulations
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14/ANSI Y14 standards
  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods such as CNC, sheet-metal stamping, vacuum forming, molding and additive manufacturing
  • Histology laboratory workflow experience
