Job Title: Plant Controller

Location: Amherst, NY

  • Must reside in commutable distance of Amherst, NY (This is an Onsite Role.)

MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years working experience in the finance area within a manufacturing facility.
  • An exceptional level of computer skills and ERP knowledge is required.

The Controller is responsible for the preparation, review of and summary of periodic financial analysis (whether it may be daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual) including but not limited to the measuring of Sales (R05), cost of Sales (R25), gross margins (R20), manufacturing variances (R31), manufacturing quality and inventory provisions (R32), and SG&A (R51, R52, R53, and R56).

The position will have a strong focus on measuring the accuracy and timeliness of the manufacturing variances with an in depth understanding of Purchase Price Variance, Material Usage variances, technical variances and absorption of overheads. Furthermore, providing analysis and reporting on key manufacturing performance indicators that monitor and measure results. Emphasis is on providing management with reporting that is timely, accurate and value-added.

From a balance sheet perspective, the Controller is responsible for ensuring accurate and strong internal controls for managing the sites’ assets and liabilities. The Controller is responsible for reporting, measuring and conducting annual physical inventories, as well as conducting monthly cycle counts. Perform quarterly analysis on slow moving inventories and communicate results to all levels of management. Provide in depth analysis and reporting on BFRE (inventory, AR, AP) results and working with all levels of management in reducing working capital plans. Responsible for ensuring the plant is following guidelines for capital purchases and providing timely reporting on spending to avoid cost overruns.

The Controller is responsible for preparing and coordinating the monthly closing process which includes and is not limited to manual journal entries, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy of numbers through extensive review and reporting within the timeframe permitted by the SGC Corporate guidelines. Major variation of results must be highlighted, documented, and communicated to all levels of management.

The Controller is responsible for planning, preparing, and participating in the annual budget processes. The budget process includes working with all levels of management for providing and calculating accurate standard costs, creation of P&L and balance sheet numbers as well as headcount. The Controller should also be responsible for measuring and reporting WCM and Impact 300 savings committed to within the budget.

The Controller is also responsible for managing the financial and accounting functions/systems to ensure operating performance information is compliant with corporate accounting and internal auditing policies (follows SGC ICRF guidelines- Internal Reference Framework) and applicable local, state, and federal laws. The incumbent provides responses to inquiries concerning Corporate Accounting Policy, US GAAP, and IFRS related issues. In addition, he/she approves any location changes to existing policy and/or automated systems. Each time that there is a change either in Corporate Accounting Policy or a change necessitated by new government regulations, the incumbent is responsible for the implementation of new methods to accommodate the revision. The Controller is also responsible for completing the annual Business Control Questionnaire by working with management by testing local procedures to ensure they are compliant and up to date.

The Controller will be asked to undertake non-repetitive project work assigned by the Director of Finance or the Plant Manager in order to report on various aspects of financial and operating performance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required, MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years working experience in the finance area within a manufacturing facility required.
  • The incumbent must possess a broad technical accounting knowledge base as a prerequisite for the effective guidance of the plant accounting function.
  • This position requires a self-motivated, analytical person who works well with all levels of management. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. In addition to analytical and quantitative skills, the Controller must be able to communicate effectively, plan work and operate independently with broadly stated objectives and little direct supervision.
  • Ability to multitask project work is required.
  • An exceptional level of computer skills and ERP knowledge is required.
  • In this position, the incumbent must ensure integrity of all financial results, as well as assisting the Director of Finance in ad-hoc requests.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 20% – Manage, review and summarize periodic financial analysis (whether it may be daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual) to operational management that is accurate, timely, and value-added.
  • 20% – Manage and coordinate monthly closing process and communicate results within operations and to corporate office.
  • 10% – Manage financial and accounting functions/systems to ensure operating performance information is compliant with corporate accounting and auditing policies (follows SGC ICRF guidelines- Internal Reference Framework) and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
  • 50% – Support other SGP financial staff as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $95,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
